Loss of Power at cruising speed

First time user, so if there is a thread that answers this already, please point me to it. I appreciate your time.

1998 Oldsmobile Silhoette, Automatic Transmition, 130,000 miles

I am getting a loss of power at lower RPMs (1500-2500) when at cruising speeds (55-75). Almost feels like the engine is misfireing. Doesn't seem like the transmistion is trying to shift unless it is trying to downshift, but the RPMs stay constant. I usually I let off the gas (problem imediatley stops), hit the gas again (forces a downshift increasing the RPMs) which solves the problem until we get back to about 2000 RPM. Starts and Runs fine other than that.

Thanks agian for your time.

Go to autozone and see if they can pull any codes up. It's free. There's a couple things that could be wrong.

MAF (Mass air flow sensor)

Throttle position sensor

Tranmission control sensor

etc.

Report back here with some codes if there is any.

My first guess would be a clogged catalytic converter, but the cause for that could be a number of things. They usually show up as a "check engine' light.

No check engine light yet. I did try a little fuel injector cleaner, and it didn't seem to help at all.
