1989 Cadillac Seville starting disabled

I keep getting this message "starting disabled due to theft system." Then i have to remove the key and wait 3 minutes. Finally it says start car and then it gives me the same B.S. again. What do I do?

Have someone remove the factory alarm or see if the dealer can fix it. Most factory alarms are tied into the computers so it's difficult just to snip wires.

Does your key have the little black pellet on it. If so, it is a resistor, and while they don't usually go bad, a little moisture or body oil can make them touchy. Try cleaning the key, dry it well, and give it a try.

This key does not have the pellet in it.

I figured the problem out. The theft system has already been bypassed but one of the wires leading to the resistor came disconnected. I hooked it back up and the car cranks.
