2000 Toyota Avalon/Replace charcoal canister help.
Hi;
My engine light is on. PO446 evap. code.
Dealership did diagnostics and states that evap./charcoal canister has an internal leak and needs to be replaced.
Part #: 77740-06170
Is this a part that can be replaced by home mechanic? Do you need any special tools, etc?
Does anyone have instructions for this and the best place/price to purchase it at?
Thank you for your help?

Did you try replacing your fuel cap before paying the dealer? Most of the time, a EVAP code comes up when the fuel cap is leaking or loose.
This part should not be to difficult to replace. I don't see any special tools needed, but get yourself a Chiltons or Haynes manual and it will tell you. You may need some fuel line clamps. Should just be some basic socket and wrench set.

Thanks for response
Thank you.
Fuel cap is fine.
They supposedly did full diagnostics and "evaporative canister internal leak",
is what they came up with.
I had reset the engine light prior to this with checking the gas cap but it eventually came back on again.
