1993 Escort Wagon Alt Light
My 93 Escort wagon has a weird problem. The ALT light will come on,for a few days, then magically go off. It seems to have no effect on battery charge as the car is driven daily a round trip of about 10 miles. Some days the lights, heater, defroster and de fogger are all on at the same time. The car starts and runs normally. The battery was replaced with a new one in June '06.

Yeah, could be belt slippage, but I'd get that alt. checked out ASAP
It's most likely starting to go
You'll want to fix that b e f o r e it leaves you stranded somewhere
You can have it tested (on the car) at many DIY parts places
(it may test OK if it's an intermittent problem)
I'd recommend a quality replacement, not a cheapo, as the "strandability factor" if this part fails is high
I'd recommend paying the extra for a Ford unit, or a quality locally rebuilt unit

My 91 Escort had a perhaps related problem. Though the belt looked perfectly fine, after 13 years the original belt stretched to the limit of the tensioner. In my case the belt started squealing, not trip the check engine light.
