1992 Olds small motor running

When I turn off the engine or turn the key to the off position, there is a small motor (located in the engine compartment, front driver-side) that keeps running for 3-4 minutes. I have no idea what the motor does or if it is important. Is it essential or can it be unplug? Any infromation or help is appreciated.

Auxilary electric fan. Its used in assisting the controlling the engine cooling.
many cars thewe days have them. Next time you stop, open the hood and look for a fan on the backside of the engine fan schroud.
