Brake indicator light

My wife gave her '89 Chevy Berreta to a family member. It's in great shape with about 80,000 original miles on it. Now we are hearing that the brake indicator light on th I.P. is on all the time. I assume this is for the emergency brake, which has never been used since we purchased the car new.
He says everything is working with no problems, but the light stays on.
Any ideas ?

Did you give them a maintinence plan too?

The light can come on for many reason - all brake related. Might be the parking brake isn't fully disengaged, low brake fluid/leak or wore out pads/shoes.

Most likely the brake fluid is low, which probably means either the brakes are worn to the point they should be checked for replacement, or there is a leak.

Brake light

Never used the "PARKING BRAKE"? I suggest you get into the habit of using it, that way it won't be all rusted and frozen up when another driver tries to use it. All of the previous suggestions are good. I suggest that maybe someone tried to use the brake and since it is probably all stiff and rusty from lack of use that when the brake was released it did not fully release and now can't shut of the switch. If this is a foot opperated parking brake, pull the release handle and pull back on the parking brake pedal to see if the light goes off. If it does go off, it sounds like the parking brake system needs to be worked on.
