Test light time..........There should be 12 volts at the big wire in the back 12 V at the red wire in the side plug..........and 12 V WITH THE KEY ON at the brown wire..........Missing any of that???? If so, you have a wire chase........If not you have a non functioning alt

thank you i was afraid of that ,. also could a big stereo amp cause this problem?

You stereo amp is probably draining your battery faster then the alt can charge it. Think about upgrading alt, adding a amp capacitor, or upgrading to a yellowtop battery.
To test this, disconnect your amp power cable from battery, and drive around for awhile and see if the light comes on, if it does, you have a wiring problem, or the alternator and/or battery is bad.

1985 huh......
If I remember correctly, the thin brown wire at the alt. also feeds the electric Choke? There may be a "Choke " relay under the dash. It Looks like a Horn relay , but it will be Green in color. A wiring diagram is the hot ticket here.
