98 ford explorer

Unhappy 98 ford explorer

Have ford explorer with 4.0 . Replaced plugs and wires but still seems to miss on slight excelleration or when going on overpass such as on interstate. Has 128000 miles

How about dist. cap and rotor, fuel filter, clean injectors???

you might try to clean the injecters like dill says carbon in the intake will cause a ruff idle or incorect egr flow is it a hard miss or more like a ruff idle

still looking

4.0 sohc motor, rotor cap is square box so no coil wire
pressure from injectors checks fine, idles fine most of time

Fords require you to use specific plugs and wires. I had this issue with my Ford Ranger. The autoplace gave me some other wires and plugs, and the truck didn't run right. I suggest you remove the ones you have now, and get the proper OEM plugs and wires.

Agree with Hot on the plugs...... Make sure you're Autolite'n and not Bosch'n........Cheap plugs don't work well in these.....I'd check EGR function too as they are known to give these cars a variety of runablity issues
And on another note..................Fuel rail pressure does not necessarily mean the injectors are inject'n.........meerely that the fuel pump is a pump'n
