1987 Ford Mustang Headlights

I have a 1987 Ford Mustang. the headlights do not work. I have replaced the headlights and switch. The high beams and amber lights work, but not the headlights.

If you are handy with a multimeter, you can test for power while the headlights switch is on, at the plug connecter going into the headlight assembly. If you have 12vDC at the ligh plug, you have a bad lamp. If you have no power, then you have a wiring issue. Trace all the wiring and check for cut wires, disconnected wires, melted wires, fuses, relays, etc.

Just to add a little to what HotinOKC suggested. Since you say you have replaced the headlights, if you have power at the headlight connector, follow one of the connector wires to a grounding screw. Remove the screw and sand or steel wool the metal on the wire terminal and on the sheet metal to a shine. Then reattach and tighten snugly. I suspect some rust etc. on a 20 year old car.

Remember, to light, you must have an electrical path from the battery, thru the switch, then the light filament, and finally to ground.

I presume that you have already checked fuses.
