Thermostat Install, which way?

Thermostat Install, which way?

The stepson took out the thermostat on the GMC safari and he dont remember which way it came out, so I need to know which way to put the thermostat back in, please help.

It should only fit one way. Spring down.

The thermostat will have a spring on one end and a groove in the pocket the thermostat sets in. Set the thermostat with the spring end to the engine. This is so as the engine warms up the coolant will run past the thermostat to the bypass. The groove could be in the intake or the neck that bolts onto the intake (if that is the setup you have). Some autos have a 0 ring instead of a gasket. I would guess that yours is a gasket. Place the gasket over the thermostat in the groove and bolt on the neck.

If it is not as I have described do not proceed with installation. Get further help.

I will see if I can find a link that shows the above procedure.

Look at the thermostat. There will be a somewhat large copper pellet . The pellet always goes towards the engine block, never towards the radiator

I guess I'll jump in to.
Yep, the coil spring end always goes into the water jacket or manifold.
