Either the linkage fell off and you just pop the rod back into place or something with the linkage broke.
But you can probably pick up a used part from a salvage yard.
Pop off the door panel and check it out.

well, I was hoping you would answer before you got offline. apparently you didn;t catch my post. I didblt want to type all this out id it wasn't but I will anyway.

If it is the funky door handles.

If there is resistance like feels like it is moving something (linkage) but simply will not unlwatch the door. There is a cover on the door jamb that can be removed and the linkage adjusted there to allow the door handle to open the door.

If it feels like there is no movement of any type. it is probable the handle has broken. A VERY common thing for this design of handle. If I remember corectly, they are around $30-$40 dollars. Many auto salvage yards carry these as aftermarket parts. (they are new parts though)

Seems like the dealers wanted near $100 for them. Not very hard toreplace. take off that cover I spoke of and you will see the things that need to be disconnected. There is also a nut or two on the inside of the door post to hold the thing on as well.
