Broken metal stud

Broken metal stud

The stud is broken below where I can thread a nut . Do I drill it out and re thread it or are there threaded insert's . Bob

install 2 nuts on stud tighten nuts together then loosen first nut it should turn the stud and remove it

If the stud is broken off and you can't get to the threads to do the 2-nut trick as in the last post, you need to use an easy-out to remove the stud. Easy outs are sold at Sears and auto parts stores. They work by being inserted into a drilled hole in the stud and turning the easy out backwards - the easy out has left-hand threads that engage the stud/bolt and turn it backwards to unscrew it from the mating part. Then install a new stud.
