grand am 2.4L ignition coil removal
have a rough idle and #2 cylinder misfire code...replaced spark plugs and boots(1997 grand am 2.4L)....no change on idle or code....couple of questions...1)can a coil malfunction cause only 1 cylinder to misfire(2 coils 4 cylinders)...2)how the heck do the coils come out of the housing

Yes, a coil pack can cause 1 cylinder to misfire. You have to replace the whole coil pack which is usually not cheap. You may find one in a junk yard for cheaper.
Try replacing that first. It can be a slew of other things as well. Some of them below:
Too much/too little fuel being injected
worn valve guides
exhaust valves sticking open
Autozone.com has a ok repair section for vehicles. You can try them for repair procedures if you car is older (2000 or older usually)

would probably try a new housing first while it could be other things a coil pack fires 2 cylinders and you will usually lose 2 cylinders when one fails, not to mention the housing is probably the most common failing ignition component on the quad 4 engine.
