Post 96 Jeep Cherokee

Hi,

My wife's 96 Cherokee has been making this squealing sound when pulling off from a dead stop. While the squealing sound is going on, the battery indicator drops down below 14. After the squealing goes away (over 40 mph) the battery indicator jumps back up to 14 and there seems to be a little kick in the drive. The dealer says that there is a necessary recall that needs to be done for the electrical system, but the parts are on back order for the next 6 months. Anyone know what's going on here?? Is her truck going to die in the next 6 months??

Thanks,

sweetboy

Check the alternator belt. I suspect it's a little loose and causing the squeal as it goes over the alternator pulley. when the alternator does get up to speed and in sync with the belt, the squeal stops and you get normal charge.
As a temporary fix / test, get some belt dressing from any auto store. Follow directions and see if the squeal disappears.
