92 Aerostar Starter replacement

92 Aerostar Starter replacement:
How do I remove the starter from my Aerostar. It seems impossible without removing either the front drive shaft or the exhaust pipe from the manifold.
If removing the drive shaft is necessary, how is that done?

You shouldn't have to do either of those.

Try this:

I saw that link. Unfortunately, that is a '91 and my Aerostar is much different. Currently, I have unbolted the starter and disconnected the wires. If I could find a way to get it out that didn't involve a cutting torch, I'd be truly happy.

On some vehicles, you may have to remove the air intake or the inner wheel splash shields.

Remove the least complicated part in your way.

This repair really does require significant labor. I'm probably going to cut the exhaust pipe from the manifold since that seems to be the easiest thing to do. I was hoping I could get a clever idea about removing the drive shaft but I want really expecting it.
