fuel gauge

fuel gauge

my sons 97 chevy malibu's fuel gauge needle has jumped below the stop pin and reeds in the negitive is there a way to fix this problem please advise thanks tony59

Strange how that happened but have seen it happen in wrecked vehicles.
You will have to take the cluster out and apart to reposistion the needle. Make sure you wear talc free rubber gloves so you dont leave unsightly fingerprints or dust in the inside once together and make sure the tank is as empty as poss. so you know wear empty is, or wait till the light comes on to reposistion it. They are not hard to take out.
