Heater fan resistor keeps burning out??

Hi,
We have a 2002 Mercury Villager and our heater fan motor resistor keeps burning out. I put in a new one and get 3-4 months out of it before it quits. The fan still works on the highest setting (#4) but not on the lower fan settings (#1, 2 or 3).
If anyone has had a similar experience and knows what is causing the resistor to continuously fail, please let me know how you resolved it.
Thank you for your help!
Rick

Likely blower motor is pulling too many amps; getting old and likely has to be replaced. Might check grounds, if loose, could do it but doubt that is the issue.

I agree with bob.
Replace the fan motor.
I had an older car that kept blowing the fan fuse on the hottest of days of course and it was the fan motor even though it worked OK.
Pulling too many amps.
