Question GMC 4x4 problem

I have a 94 jimmy SLE 4x4. 4.3 vortec.
I posted a few weeks ago and was surprised to get no replies so will try again.
Recently when trying to engage the 4 high (green light) button, it comes on and flashes and goes out. The 4 low (orange button) comes on and engages in 4 low and works fine. Question is>>> does anyone know why i am unable to obtain 4 high? and what would be probable causes of this, I have read the other posts, none of which relate to this exact problem. I am a female, and to top that blonde so please explain in detail. LOL Thanks in advance for replies. I will repost.

Hi, at first blush, I have no clue. But, there is hope! I have the '94 factory shop manuals for the chevy/gmc pickups (I drive a 2 wheel drive 1500) so I probably have the troubleshooting chart, electrical schematics and repair info that covers the 4x4 system on your vehicle. We're in the middle of moving from one house to another, but I will be at the house tonight where the manuals are and will try to grab them and look this up. Be back, probably tomorrow.

More than likely it is you encoder (shift) motor. Try disconnecting the battery for a couple of min and then see if it works, this is only temp but is a way to use it in a pinch. They are real easy to swap out and you can get them cheap on the "bay" kinda pricey from the dealer.

Arrow GMC 4x4 range selection problems

Hey LADEE! 99 % of the repairs I,ve had the pleasure to make involved replacing the push button switch on the dash. The ONLY time I replaced the servo-motor on the transfer case was due to water intrusion into the motor assembly, then the water froze and the unit could not shift out of 2WD. If this seems to be a cold weather [meaning consistent sub-freezing conditions in your area] related problem, try thawing the vehicle in a heated garage, then go for a ride to see if it helped. I SINCERELY DOUBT IT WILL. Like I said, get a new switch at the dealer, pop it in the dash, and go. You can handle this. Look for the edge of the button assembly and using a small screwdriver, pop it out of the dash, release the wire retention clips, remove the button assembly from vehicle and change switch. Good Luck.
