Catalytic converter 85 buick skylark
where is the catalytic converter in this vehicle? what does it look like? how do i find it? i want to cut it out and straight pipe it. any suggestions? the car will start but it will not stay running . it chokes out after about 30 seconds to one minute or so.

It is illegal to cut the cat out. Fine I think is up to $25,000
It is not illegal to cut it out and put in a "test pipe" temporarily to find out if that is the problem.
Hope you know that working on a car exhaust is real hard
I do agree that it could be a clogged cat.
Have someone start the vehicle while you are at the tail pipe with your work boot over the outlet of exhaust and feel how much exhaust is being pumped out. Compare with another vehicle if unsure.

It's technically illegal to do that; you can replace it with a fairly inexpensive aftermarket converter. It's the first component in the exhaust system going to the rear. Looks somewhat like the muffler (which will be further back near the rear of the car).
