2001 dodge 1500 steering gear leaking..
I have a Dodge 1500 that is leaking fluid from underneath the steering gear box. It leaks where the Pitman Arm attaches to the gear with a big nut. Does this sound like the steering gear box needs replacing?
If I replace the Steering Gear will I need any special pullers to get that Pitman Arm off?
Also, if anyone has any 'Things to watch for' tips when executing this job, I would appreciate any information.

Yes the output shaft seal has gone bad.
Autozone or sim should have them in stock.
You will need a pitman arm remover for this job and watch out when you unbolt it from the frame, they are heavy.

A few things to beware of.
Probably most important, Before disassembling, get the steering wheel and front wheels straight lock the steering column before removing the box.......DO NOT allow the steering wheel to rotate while the box is out, The "clockspring" at the top of the column that powers your air bag only has so many turns in it in either direction.
I always center the new box before installing.........Turn it all the way in one direction then back, while counting turns........Then rotate half of the overall
Most will come already in this mode, but I'd rather check before tossing this rather heavy puppy up
