no reverse light on 1997 camry

I would like to know if and where I would find the reverse switch on a 1997 camry, I have changed the bulbs and that didn't help. I want to test to see if the switch needs to be replaced before I buy the switch because I cant return it. Thanks

The switch is located in the engine compartment. Here is how the switch works.
The shifter has a cable that runs to the trans. Locate this cable
Under this cable is a switch that does more then 1 thing.
First it prevents you from starting the car in gear( only works in nutral and park)
It also works the back up lights
First be shure it is the switch and not the bulbs. I know it sounds funny but I have had people come into my shop with this and wanted to change out the switch and it was the bulbs. I always have a new bulb and test it in the car befor you replace the switch.
More time then not it is bad bulbs.

Ok if it is the switch remove it from the trans( easy ) and move the switch by hand. Turn on the key, but do not start the car. Move the switch 1 click and see if the lights come on. If you know the bulbs are good, go and replace the switch.
