Strange tranny problem
A friend of mine was telling me how sometimes as he is driving,or changing gears while backing up,or going forward his truck won't move. Rpm's go up
then the tranny will engage and then engages and its alright for awhile.
truck is a 2004 GMC sierra xtra cab with all the bell and whistles. He has had it to the dealer and no codes show up so i thougt i'd run the issue by the knowledgible people here for some ideas. My friend is religious about care and maintence and does what the dealer and owners manual recommends.
Thanks

I think there is a known problem with GM's transmissions. I have read a lot of people have had to get new trannys in this situation. But before dumping all that money into a new one, I would check the shift linkage and solenoid.
Is this a auto or manual?
It also could be the TCM (transmission control module). I would check these 3 things first, if not, tell your friend to get ready to spend a lot of money.
This vehicle is out of warranty already? Most powertrain covereage is 5 yrs 75,000 miles.

Thanks for your reply.
The truck is a automatic with about 40-45k miles. He bought a extended warranty when he got the truck.
I will forward your recommendations to him.
