Accord 02-Should I drain and refill trany fluid at 42,000

Hi,

My mother drives her 02 Accord mostly around the city. It is now at 42,000 miles and never has any trany fluid change. The manual said to do a fluid change at 100,000 miles.

My question is should I do a drain and refill (with Honda Trans Fluid) now or should I wait until the recommended interval and do one of those complete trany replacement?

Thanks for your reply.

Hello, just my opinion but I think Honda must have some great engineers there!! I love Honda everything and I would just follow your Honda manual maintance intervals. If it were me I'd do as the manual says and take it to a dealer and have them do whatever your manual says. My guess she will get years and years out of that car with proper maintance! Just my opinion, Jack

I have a 95 bronco with 134,000 miles on it, and i've never changed the transmission fluid. From what i've been told, as long as it is still a pretty red/pinkish color and not real dark or thick, you should be fine. Checking the level as well of course.

FWIW, I would never go 100,000 miles to a tranny service regardless of the vehicle. A tranny fluid change is VERY cheap insurance. Having said that, autx790 don't change yours; the fresh fluid would quickly dissolve the accumulation of deposits on the various internal parts and bad things would follow.
