Cool 1998 Ford Contour Se OBDII Code P0401

Hello,
I would like to get an advice from anyone of you guys outthere. I am fed up with this P0401 problem. EGR restricted flow. I have replaced the EGR Valve the EGR Solenoid and even the hoses. Is there anything else I need to replace to get rid of this problem????

Thanks,
Juan

Last thing to replace is the Differential Pressure Sensor (DPS).

Maybe but probably not. You stalling is most likely from a vacuum leak or bad idle speed motor.

If you see no vacuum hoses damaged, then I owuld say yes, this DPS is causing your stallings.

THE FIRST THING TO DO when trying to diagnose EGR is to take a vacuum pump to the valve............If applying vacuum to the valve at idle stalls the vehicle ...............or at least makes it run poorly , you then know that the valve works, the ports are clear, and the problem is on the electrical side...........If the car DOESN'T stall or run poorly.........remove the EGR valve and mine the carbon that has probably collected in the ports from and to the EGR

intake clog?

take off your brand new egr valve. plug the hole in the intake with a rag and start the car. Pull out the rag and replace it with you thumb. you should feel a strong vacuum. remove your hand and the car should die or idle very badly. if you cannot tell a BIG difference with thumb on v. thumb off you found the problem. remove plenum and clean passage.

does your car knock more now than a few years ago?

More likely is a EGR pressure sensor, I've seen them goes bad and set a same P0401 code, there's nothing wrong with your EGR valve, those are mechanical device and soes not "talks" to the PCM, the EGR pressure sensor is the one who does the "talking", hot gas then cold air keeps passing thru the tube via the Sensor then creates condensation in the sensor which causing "restricted flow". After checking vacuum supply at the valve/solenoid and they are good, I'd go for EGR valve sensor.
