troubleshooting cruise control '91 taurus

Is there a good procedure to determine which component may have failed in my cruise control? It's a 1991 Taurus with the 3.8l. Thanks! It just stopped operating and since there is no light to tell you if it's turned on, I don't know where to start.

I have a 95 Bronco with a cruise control problem. Probably not the same as yours, but mine had shorted out because of the recall problem. Basically went up in smoke if i plugged in the brake pressure switch. There not much to checking the cruise electrically. Basically just few variable resistances for each button (set, accel, decel, off, etc.)

I don't know how your year works but you can go to www.fordcds.com and download the electrical schematics. They only go back to 92 but it might be same as the 91. I replace my 95 module with a 97 which was a year they didn't even make the bronco anymore. Or check in the Haynes manual for you car.

Hope something here helped get you started.

If it has the buttons on the steering wheel, Im pretty sure those are prone for failure. Take a look at the throttle under the hood. You should have one cable going to your gas pedal and one going to the cruise control module. Make sure the cable is still connected.
