Head gasket for 92 Plymouth voyager

MY van has 258k V6 3.3L motor needa head gasket. Is it compulsary to get the head checked for warpage and grinding or I can just replace the gaskets because there is nothing else wrong with motor no noise and no tappet noise except overheating and water mixing with oil I don't want to spend alot on old work van

Is it compulsory, no, but if you don't you will likely be back in the shop soon for another head gasket. The thing that usually happens when engines overheat is the head warps, which leads to coolant loss, which leads to more overheating. See where I am going. But they also check for cracks, which are a real possibility. And it is possible there is a problem with the block if you have had a lot of overheating problems.

Either by using a good trained eye or by using penetrant dye inspection methods.
