power steering boot replacement

I've got a 1988 chevy celebrity. The CV/power steering boot has a crack in it, keep losing the power steering fluid. My local auto parts store sold me a kit that I've been assured can be easily replaced without taking the steering column apart. Anybody ever done this?

nope

The boot is only a dust boot to keep crud out. Seals need replaced no boot will keep fluid in.If you are losing fluid it is too late.

yah, unless you have the special tools and the know how to get at those seals you are better off just to replace the power steering gear (rack and pinion). Even if you DO replace the seals, chances are all the others will blow out soon.
