Check gages light
My friend has a 2006 dodge ram SLT pickup. He said that yesterday the check gages light came on and stayed. he said theres no signs of problems but the owners manual says that it should be taken to a service center as soon as possible. Anyone have any ideas as to where to start. I heard auto zone can run the codes on the engine for free. Is that true. That sensor as something to do with emissions and the engine the book said.

do you mean check engine light?
Check the gas cap first, sometimes if they aren't screwed back on correctly it will cause the check engine light to come on. A different grade of gas may also do it.
Autozone will read codes for free.

But be careful about jumping into buying the first part they suggest. The codes don't always point directly to the bad component without further investigation/troubleshooting.

Depends on if it was the "Check Engine" or "Check Gauges".
Check gauges usually means something has gone above or below an acceptable limit, such as oil pressure, coolant temp, etc. The light only stays on as long as the condition exists.

yeah gas gage works oil gage the needle is in the middle so is the battery gage. temp is fine. I topped of the coolant tank by buying a $5 gallon of 50/50 antifreeze and coolant premix and topped it off to the full mark. did not do anything,. The light was still on.
