Timing belt replace cost
Does about $650 sound right for a timing belt replacement on a 2000 Honda CR-V? Quote was for timing belt, drive belt, water pump,anti-freeze,labor.
Thanks

I would go to the library and look up the labor time in the book and then search the internet for prices on the parts. Then you have to ask the shop what they charge per hour for labor. It's been a while since I worked, but back in 1993 when I last worked, labor was about $65 an hour. Dealerships, I know are more. Plus, I can't imagine a timing belt taking 8+ hours.

I would buy the book, not the chilton, mitchell or haynes. To me they are nothing but huge glove-box manuals. I mean the OEM books. http://www.helminc.com/helm/product2.asp?class%5F2=AHM&mk=Honda&yr=2000&md=CR%2DV&dt=&module=&from=result&Style=&Sku=61S1004&itemtype=N&mscsid=PD502GW0W8F99MV3FJ2BC43965S79TBA
1997-2001 CR-V Service Manual
Price: $69.00

An average of 1,500 pages of detailed repair instruction and diagrams written by Honda service professionals make this the best manual available for accurate repair. Each Section includes a Table of Contents, and many have a Component Location Index showing parts disassembly sequence, bolt torques, thread sizes, and page references to descriptions in text. Book includes Maintenance Schedules, Specifications, Troubleshooting, Special Tools, Removal/Installation, Disassembly and Adjustment. Repair instruction on Engine Electrical, Engine, Cooling, Fuel and Emissions, Transaxle, Steering, Suspension, Brakes including ABS, Body, Heating/Air Conditioning/Ventilation, Body Electrical and Restraints.
Then I would but a small air-compressor for around $100 and an 3/8 drive air-ratchet, assuming you already have some basic hand tools (sockets, etc). Then do it myself and always have the book and air compressor for the future.

The garage charges $65 an hour. estimate 4-5 hours. waranteed/guranteed for 12k/12 mos. I use this garage regularly.
Thanks for the offer Tow Guy,but considering Murphy's law i'd never make to Florida.
Appreciate all who posted to my question.
