Gas gauge

1993 Dodge Dakota
When I fill the gas tank up the gas gauge goes to empty. As I drive it and use the gas the gauge starts going up until it ends up on half tank.I use trip odometer as my gas gauge.
Any idea's?

Sounds like a bad sending unit. This unit or "float" is inside the tank.

Cool gas gauge

That is strange. I never heard that one before. Even if the float in the tank had a hole in it, I coudln't explain that. Even somehow wires criss-crossed. Maybe a bad ground? I dunno...That is a new one to me.

I've seen it plenty. Sending unit in tank gets corroded and creating bad continuity.
