1994 Toyota Camry V6 Temp Gauge Not Working

Hi I got a 94 Camry V6 A/T. The temp gauge just stays at cold at all times its been that way since i bought it. What are the basics i can check before i go deep? what can be the problem? THX in ADVANCE

Most likely would be that the plug has come loose from the sending unit. Next would be bad sender. Possible the gauge is bad, but less likely. The car may have two senders; one that sends a signal to the gauge to show you water temp and a second one that sends a signal to the computer. The senders can be screwed into either the block or the intake manifold, often near the water hose outlet.

If you find the right sender, and the plug is not just disconnected, you can usually test the gauge by shorting the wire to ground. When you do, the temp indicator should go all the way to the top (hot). If it does, the wiring and gauge should be good and it's probably the sender. You might go by a parts store and have them show you a sender so you know what to look for.
