Smile Can someone help me with my Truck

I purchased a 1989 suburban truck in San Antonio, Texas ' Drove it home to Houston,Texas and then the Transmission started slippin on me(Thank God it didn't happen on the freeway). This is what it's doing..It goes into 1st then 2nd..then when it's suppose to go into 3rd..it doesn't. I changed the Filter and added new fluid and it's still doing the same thing..Do I need a new Transmission or is there something that i can do to make it right..***The people at the " Transmission Shop " are telling me i need a new transmission*** Can someone help me with my small problem(I can drive the truck in those 2 gears then i need to come to a stop and then start the gears over again 1 and 2 ) DO I NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION..PLEASE HELP.

350 ENGINE - 16 BOLTS - 700 TRANSMISSION

18 years old. Who knows what loads it has pulled / carried through that time.

It's time for a new (rebuilt) tranny.

Just for grins you might try pulling codes to see if something tranny -related shows up, but I think goldstar (and your tranny shop) may be right.

Here's how to read codes on you OBD-I vehicle:

Look under your dash near the driver's side door for the connector.
