Dakota brakes occasionally smoke?

2002 Dakota 4dr crew cab, 6cyl, 2WD, left front caliper brake recently smoking on occasion and can smell heated brakes and aluminum driver side wheel is much hotter than passenger side wheel. Brakes stop ok, does not seem like brake pads are too worn out, replaced out less than a year ago.

Question: Should I look for a caliper problem? or, is it possible this problem can be expected to be fixed with new braked pads and rotors trued up?

Thanks for any input.

You "may" have a bad seal within your caliper allowing brake fluid to leak onto the pads/rotors. I would take a good look at the caliper.
