88 Honda accord LXI won't start
car was running and starting excellent until battery wdied aboutthree months ago.nReplaced battery and tried starting it with no luck. Decided to add gas since it was low.Filler cap would not accept gas and spout was definitely inserted into fillerbut gas backed up and ran out on car fenderTried several times to start it . There was no indication gas was getting to engine.Put a few deops of gas into carb and motor started and gagged and died....Cannot understand why it will not allow gas to go into tank.
Help please.......

Most likely you have a bad evap. cannister. This is a charcaol type cannister that is usually mounted on or near your fuel tank. If it is bad, it will not allow fuel into the tank. The cannister acts as a filtered breather. With no air able to escape, it will not allow anymore fuel in.
