Question 2003 Mustang Mach 1

A friend of mine has developed a leak at the back end of her Mach 1. She thought it was gas but it's not. She said there's a small "box" approximately 10" to 12" square at the back end. There is a yellow/orange oily liquid leaking from the box. It sounds like the box is centered between the wheels and against the bottom of the trunk floor. Does anyone know what this box is and what the fluid might be? The car is going into the shop Monday. Thanks to anyone with an idea.

Could it be her rear differential?
Only liquids back there would be either fuel or tranny type fluid.

I thought it would be the differential too but the way she described it, it seems to be above the rear housing. I have no idea.

She sure it's not a bottle of something leaking in the trunk?

Make sure it's not gas, gas has that strong odor that cannot be mistaken.
