Mini Grease Gun

I own a mini grease gun. It holds a mini grease tube and has a rod that slides out the bottom. I have a terrible time getting the thing to work. There were no instrutions with it. After fumbling with it for a while and getting grease all over the place I finally get it to work. There must be an easier way. I spend more time loading the gun than using it. Anybody know how to work one of these things?? Thanks.

Just taking a wild guess from other guns. There should be a knob or handle on the end of the rod to grab onto. Pull out on knob/handle (should compress the spring) and there should be a notch next to the hole in the end cap. When you have the rod all the way out, move it sideways and a groove in the rod should engage the notch and "park" it. Load gun and screw pieces back together. release rod from the "parked" position. Help?

Dumb question. The top of the grease tube is covered with foil. Do I make a hole in it, if so, do I make a hole in it before or after putting the tube in the gun??? THanks...

Yes, just give it a poke. When I use a gun that takes that kind i usually poke it after shoving it into the barrel so that any pressure generated behind it when you shove it in doesn't push grease all over.
