alternater problems

I have a '94 eagle talon front wheel drive 1.8. I put on a new alternater and a new belt, the next day the belt broke so i put on another belt. Its been 2 days and its ran fine but now it wont stop squeeling and it smells like it is burning rubber. What could be causing it to this?

The belt must be too tight or there is another pulley gone bad.

Are any of the belt pulleys wobbling?

Check tensioner and/or idler pulleys. As OKC suggests, likely you've got a bad one. Also check any other accessories that run off the belt for free rotation.

Here's a link for your vehicle.

This link will tell you how to measure if your belt is too tight or loose.

There is a bolt tenstioner on the alternator which you put on. You need to probably loosen this up some. Scroll halfway down the linked page and it will tell you how.

Squeal and burning smell are usually symtoms of a loose - not tight belt.

Yes, it very well could be lose, either way, the tensioner needs to be adjusted.
