How to sludge prevent in 2.7 engine

I am getting an Intrepid with a 2.7 liter engine.
I have not seen it yet but I will be going out today to take a look at it.
I read about the engines problem with oil sludge.
My question is: How can I stop the sludge from happening.
Additives? More oil changes? Hotter thermostat? Would a engine oil cooler help?
Thanks for any replies

Replace oil with synthetic when required. Most oil lube places sell engine cleaner. They usually try and sell you all this when you go. I did give in one time for the engine/sludge cleaner. They pour this stuff in your oil, run motor, and flush. It does seem to work fairly well since I actually saw what was coming out the oil pan. Usually these products are made by Justice Brothers.
