My "new" 99 dodge dakota sport (22,000 miles) had squeaking brakes, so last week I installed new front pads. They seem to work fine, but I noticed my mileage is horrible and the truck lacks power. Yesterday I noticed an acrid smell and saw smoke coming from the front right. I touched the rotor and found it to be extremely hot. Then tried the front left and it was too. Now I know that the brakes are dragging, which is causing all the problems with mileage, etc. My questions is, what did I do wrong? I've installed a lot of pads on other vehicles with no problems so I know it must be something simple I'm overlooking. The brakes just seem too tight. Thanks in advance.

hi!
i was wondering if anyone knows where i can find a schematic or picture for a catalytic converter, if not thats fine i will figure it out but i have to replace one immediately and i was wondering if there is anything in particular i need to know. i have already bought the converter. i haven't had the pleasure of getting under there to look yet. i'm thinking it should be fairly simple.
i have already looked at the library at any and all books and guides they have, they have mitchell and chilton and some other mechanics books and none had anything about catalytic converters.
also, i have to fix a pinhole in the top of the gas tank, i am not sure where it is exactly, what would be the procedure on that and is there an easy way to find the hole?
one last thing.....
anyone know where the pcv valve is located on my POS??
i have
1992 ford escort lx-e, 1.8L, 4 cyl, 4 door sedan
anything else you need to know... ask...
thanks!!!
