Hi. I have a 2001 Toyota Tacoma 4x4 with a 2.7L. I am getting a P1135 error code. On the heated O2 sensor before the catalytic, I understand that the 2 black wires should have 12volts across and if so I need a new O2 sensor. My question is, does the 12volts stay applied all the time when vehicle is on or does it only stay applied until operating temperature is reached?

it should stay on all the while the engine is running because it tells the computer what it needs to do to adjust air and fuel mixture to keep the engine running right. are u not getting any voltage from the wires on the sensor? you would have to check it while its running or u might be able to with the ignition on. Not really sure though.

If your car is Cali emissions spec (should state on sticker in engine bay) you have to replace the A/F (Air/Fuel) sensor. They are like the O2's, but do a slightly different job. Toyota has always had this problem. Just do a simple search within this forum or Google it. You will get 3,456,343 hits.
