Question 2004 Chevy Malibu Won't Start

This is my daughters 2004 Malibu Classic that will crank but won't start. This car has an after market remote starting system. I can only help over the phone as she is 300 miles away. Any ideas? THANKS

These cars have some issues with this.

Ask her how much gas is in the tank. The cars have a problem of being out of fuel, but the gauge reads as though it has like a 1/4 tank. This is due to a faulty fuel sender.

Also, the PCM was being replaced for a defective chip under a voluntary emissions recall because it affected the fuel pump and EGR system.

Pcm

This is the first time I"ve heard this term, what does PCM stand for. If the recall is volentary is there a cost for the replacement of this part?

PCM stands for Powertrain Control Module. Basically it's the computer that runs your car.

You will have to contact a Chevy dealer to see if you car is even affected by this recall. Recall means dealer pays for everything.

I had the same issue with a 01 I just purchased. I am not sure what changes were made to things between 01 and 04. You may want to read the thread I have on the 2001 malibu not starting and also review these sites for further ideas.

Does the theft system light blink when the key in and you are trying to start it, if so she may want to try letting it set for 10 - 15 minutes with the key in the on position until the sheft system light stops blinking, turn the key back off and then it should start????

What I found is there is alot of info out there.

I hope this helps.

Hi! I had the same issue with my Malibu. I did the "turn key to on position, and wait for 10 minutes" thing, and it worked like a charm! Now, my dome light, my head lights, and my radio turn on. The panel that has all the bells and whistles on the other side of the steering wheel (directly in front of the driver), will NOT turn on AT ALL. My car cranks, but it does not fully turn on. NOW what do I DO? Any one have any suggestions out there?

Thanks!
