LOUD rattle in undercarriage on 2000 kia sephia
After the dealer told me it was the catalytic convertor, and finding out it wasn't, I found the source of the loud clatter coming from some kind of shield below and just behind the motor. Has anyone else experienced this problem? Does anyone know what this "sheild" is?

It's a heat shield. It protects any components above the exhaust and your floor board from becoming very hot.
It is very common for these to rust out, especially if you live in the north part of the country where they use alot fo road salt.
Some of these are bolted on, but the majority are tack welded. Bring it by a exhaust shop and they should be able to put a new one on for fairly cheap and fast.
