air conditioning system pressure

I have a 1991 Ford Taurus with the 3.8. The air conditioner compressor keeps cycling on and off (like every 10 seconds) when it's definitely hot enough for it to stay on. I replaced the pressure sensor/switch and it had no effect. The system has about 35psi of pressure in it, and the gauge says that is right in the middle of the coolant full level. What should the pressure be? Is this too much and that's causing the switch to actuate?

You need to jump the compressor and take a reading on both the high and low sides. Then post back with the pressures. Did you open the system when you replaced the switch?

Sorry, I've been out of town and just got your reply. I unscrewed the switch and put the new one on. It had a pressure valve underneath that shut off to prevent the escape of the coolant.

I'll try to get the readings posted asap, thanks.
