V8 vs. V6

I,m looking for a 2005 Dakota 4dr 4X4 SLT.
The stats say the mpg is within 1 or 2 mpg between the 8cyl and 6cyl. I will not use the 4wh drive often. What other opinions are out there to consider between these two engines?
(I drive 19miles one way to work), not looking for less than 15mpg?

thanks for your ideas in advance,,

Well. I would definetly go for the V8 if you ever plan on towing anything. I would not invest in the 4x4 unless you plan on using often. Most people waste 4-6k on 4x4 and never use it.

If it's just a go to work type of vehicle, just stick with the V6.

Good friend of mine had the 6 cyl 4x4 and didn't care for it. The complaint was that it just didn't have enough passing power and the mpg wasn't very good.

I've had two Dakota's....a '93 5.2 2wd and currently a '96 5.2 4wd. The '93 would consistently average 15 - 17 mpg on the highway while the '96 averages 12 - 14 mpg on the highway.

I agree with Hot....unless you really need 4wd, I'd stay away from it. I also have a friend with the 6 cyl (4wd) and he complains often about no power and poor gas mileage....states he only averages about 15 mpg best case.
