Unhappy 1997 Taurus Power Window Will Not Go Up!

PLEASE HELP! i have a 1997 Ford Taurus, a few weeks ago the drivers side power window would not go up. All the other windows worked fine and when I pressed the button for the drivers window, I could hear a faint clicking noise in the dash. After a total freak out, I went out the next morning, started the car, and the window went up! It worked fine for several weeks, but now has happened again yesterday. I went out this morning, tried several things and nothing. Still the same clicking in the dash, but the window will not go up. I am a girl who knows NOTHING about cars, cannot afford to take this to a shop to be fixed right now. Any advise? Is there anyway I can manually pull the window up? Thank you!

If it goes in one direction but not the other, it's probably a switch problem......You say it WOULDN'T go up but next morning it did????.........
Try this......The door panel the switch is mounted in.......Give it a few sharp blows with your hand and see if that "inspires" it to work......At that point you'll KNOW it's the switch........
Other thing would be the regulator........but once they break and the window drops, it won't rise again until it's fixed

Thumbs up It Worked

Sure enough I went outside and banged on the door, nothing. THEN I remembered (dud), that I had to be holding the button down WHILE hitting the door panel. As soon as I did that, it went right up. Last time, it "healed" itself overnight. I did nothing but go out and start it the next day and then the window went up. Now I just have to figure out why the interior light does not turn on when you ooen the doors (It does work if you turn it on to stay on). and also why the "door ajar" light is permanantly lit. Thanks for your response!

Red face Grateful for both your replies!

Here's a "me too," I got the perhaps-Neanderthal whack-a-door solution to work for me, too. The problem is intermittent, i.e., seems to "heal itself" on its own, then later fails again.

[I was told by a body shop man that this is a frequent problem with Tauruses and several other models. Only the driver window is automatic (rolls all the way up/down with brief push of button) so its circuitry is distinct from that of the three other windows.]

I tried the trick of beating the driver door while pressing the roll-up button, and it worked! Specifically, the charmed spot for my getting the regulator to spring to life was about 16 inches under the door lock stem, just above the red reflector.

For a more permanent solution, search YouTube.com for "1997 Taurus driver window."

Leave the window up until you get the parts/knowledge to fix it

The problem with the big bucks is they don't fit in my wallet and I can't spend them

I've also responded to old threads before
