Ford f150

Truck ran rough when I give it gas to pass another car. Seems like it's not getting gas. Now when I drive it the truck just stops. When I restart, it runs fine until i put it in gear it runs rough and then dies,

When was the last time you changed the fuel filter? What year and how many miles?

Just had fuel filter changed when I had the motor re-built 2 months ago. I want to make sure it's not the engine before I take it back to the mechanic.

Does it run rough in gear while STOPPED with foot on brake? But not when in idling in'park'?

Is your truck carburetor/mechancial fuel pump vintage? Or is it fuel injection (throttlebody or multiport injection on a rail/electric fuel pump model)?

What color does a couple spark plugs look like?

Have you checked your engine timing and what the timing does when rpm's increase or under load?

A big key in our help though is in your answering my first question, as need to know if by 'in gear' if you are including it to stumble when just sitting there, like at a stop light, or if you mean in gear going down the highway, as this could help determine things it might be as well as NOT be.

Saw your new post. You never answered Hot's last part of his questions and you really need to answer all questions if you want help faster.

My truck runs ok when I'm at a stop light. It stumbles when I step on the gas to go.

By me asking if you have a carb, for example - these have accelerator pumps. If the pump goes bad it can starve right out instantly. Hence the need to know everything that has been asked, so we can move on and then ask more questions. Otherwise there is too much guessing.

But once you are simply cuising - THEN what? Cruising meaning at highway speed without pressing down suddenly on the gas. Does it still run lousy then?
