Thumbs down Ford Truck Trouble

f-150 ford 4.6 auto 1998 Mileage: 68,000 original

Yesterday check engine light came on, and it, immediately ran like it meant it. Started to run like crap, I was afraid to run it hard for fear of what might transpire, but I got it home, driving carfully, but it was missing and groaning the whole way. Is the 0xygen censor usually to blame, if so where and how do I get to it, to replace it. Thanks for any, and all help you can give.

I would run it by Autozone, Advanced Auto or one of the parts stores and have them read the codes from the computer. It will have a data link that can be hooked to an diagnostic scanner. You can then find out what the check engine light registered as far as a trouble code. That should give you some more specific information as to what the problem is.

An O2 sensor will certainly be a suspect, but don't throw parts at it until you get the codes read as Smtih recommends.
