Inherited a 94 Cougar XR7

Inherited a 94 Cougar XR7 3.8L +/- 85,000 miles with several issues.

1) Transmission seems to slip occasionally at Interstate speeds. After sitting idle for about 6 weeks, drove the car about 3 hours on the highway. About five times during the trip, the car lurched and the engine revved up to 3500RPMs for about 2 seconds, then re-engaged and resumed normal operation. What do you make of this?

2) The odometer stopped working. Speedometer works fine, but won't measure mileage. I'd likely have to fix that if I plan to sell the car. Is odometer repair a job I can do myself? (I have Lotsa tools and good sense, not a lot of experience).

3) The engaging button on the gear shifter knob broke and is hanging out of the gear shifter. It still changes form Park to the other gears, but requires some manual dexterity to get it to work. What is involed wit repairing/replacing the gear shifter?

Thanks, as always, for your help.
