ABS dashboard light on

ABS dashboard light on my 1999 Ford E-150 2wd work van is on.

Dealer where I get my oil changed says that I shouldn't be concerned - that my brakes work fine and I just don't have my anti lock braking system working. A friend of mine said it may be just a bad or obstructed sensor.

In either case, should I do something about it? or let it go?

Thanks!

Your "tag line" reads Safety First, and that's the key. Yes, you can stop normally when the ABS is not working. But there will be a time when you need to panic stop with some maneuvering to avoid a problem. Without ABS, you may not be able to steer out of a situation or keep from an uncontrolled slide.
When you say dealer, was this a Ford dealer or an oil change shop. I can't imagine a dealer telling you to keep trucking.

It was one of those "quick lane" oil change things at the Ford dealer near my house. They are factory trained techs that do more than oil changes. They do alignments, as well as other things. They don't however do major repairs.

I usually go there for an oil change, because they point out other issues that may need to be addressed, and the price is comparable to other oil change places

I personally would get it fixed, but that's my opinion. Like goldstar said, ABS could save your life if you ever needed it. It is most likely a wheel sensor, but further troubleshooting would have to be done to properly determine that.
