Compression
In process of buying 2.4 litre engine for sons 1998 Chev-Cavalier Z24 the engine has a compression of 150-160 and oil is 60 when cold and 40 when hot ,Is this good?

Yes, that's pretty good. When taking compression look for uniformity among the cylinders as well. The level of compression you have says it's in pretty good shape. However, if you had one cylinder that was 70 lbs, that would prove to be a problem since all cylinders have to work together.
The 60/40 on the oil pressure is pretty normal for an engine in good shape.
Hope this helps,
Bob
